Adult Education Events

Temple B'nai Israel brings in speakers of interest from the Jewish community and beyond.

I have begun offering a monthly course in the evening on Jewish holidays and practices. The topics will be keyed, at least at first, to the seasonal events. We met on October 18th for the first session, at which we looked at a short selection from the Talmud on Sukkot and then spoke of some of the traditions associated with the holiday. I was pleased by our turnout in spite of our competition with the Cubs during the National League playoff games and hope that future sessions will bring out more people.

At our December session at 7:00 p.m. on December 21, we will be focusing on Hanukkah.

I am very much interested and willing to offer other classes for individuals or groups at other times that are convenient for you. If people are interested in Bible study, learning some rabbinic text, Mishnah, Talmud, Midrash or the mystical teachings of the Zohar or perhaps some specific topic, please let me know and we will try to find a time to meet. If daytime would be better than in the evening, I am available to schedule a class or two during the daytime. Judaism emphasizes lifelong learning and while I enjoy continuing to learn myself, I would be happy to share my learning with others. Just let me know when and what you’d like to learn and I will make every effort to accommodate you.
