Julie Wright & Marcey Raymond

Julie Wright—Our (Gimmel) third grade teacher. This is Julie's second year on staff. Last year she was teacher in the second grade class. Julie is also a mother of two children in our school. In Julie's class, the students learn the Hebrew language, they study the weekly Torah reading, and they have discussions in class on ethical issues affecting third graders in today's world. In addition, when they study about the holidays, Julie always brings in fun crafts to help enhance the learning. The students also practice the prayers they are learning on Wednesday in their prayer class with the principal. The students also add to their Wednesday Israel curriculum, by studying about the culture and history of Israel and the people.

Marcey Raymond Our (Hey) fifth grade teacher. Marcey has been teaching in the school for many years. She has taught many different grades and subject matters. Marcey has two children in the school as well as a daughter who is a graduate of our Hebrew school. In the fifth grade class, the students learn the weekly torah portion by looking at the Midrash (legend) behind the text. The students also have created their own midrashim. They are learning the Hebrew language. In history they are relearning about Jewish heroes, past and present. They also discuss ethics pertaining to their lives. In addition, they study the different lifecycle events in Judaism and the Jewish holidays.

 

Gary Raymond and Faith Young

For the month of April we are highlighting two teachers. Gary Raymond and Faith Young. These two dynamic teachers share the responsibilities for teaching are Vav and Zayin classes (6th and 7th grades) Gary teaches the Hebrew language and prayer part of the curriculum, while Faith teaches the Judaic.

Gary has been teaching in the school for several years. He has taught mostly middle and high aged students. He has taught Hebrew, prayer, as well as Judaic. He is also responsible for teaching the students in grades 3-7 prayers each Sunday as a group for twenty minutes. Gary has also been instrumental in the junior congregation program at the temple. Gary is also one of the Bar/ Bat Mitzvah tutors for the temple. In addition, Gary has taught on Wednesdays for the school in various capacities. Gary has been teaching his students conversational Hebrew. They are able to communicate in basic Hebrew.

Faith has been teaching for the school for two years. She is a trained educator. She is also a very creative teacher. The students in her classes have many opportunities to integrate the arts into their learning. She does very special projects for her class in the areas of Bible study, ethics and Jewish history. Her work can be seen on the walls of her classroom and the walls of the school. Faith is the teacher on staff who creates the special crafts projects for many of our family education programs. The students are currently putting together a jeopardy game based on the learning this past year to be played against congregants for the last day of school.
